Segni e comprensione

Segni e Comprensione is a peer-reviewed international journal which focuses on the phenomenological and hermeneutical research.

The journal, founded in 1987 at the Department of Philosophy and Social Sciences of the University of Salento, in collaboration with the "Italian Centre for Phenomenological Research" in Rome, has been classified by the National Agency for the Evaluation of the University System (ANVUR) as a "scientific journal". The title Segni e Comprensione identifies the editorial proposal: to establish a journal as a phenomenological-hermeneutical tool for investigating the issues of contemporary philosophical-educational debate. In fact, in these three decades the journal has been a significant national and international crossroads of knowledge and methods, which through theoretical elaboration have enriched the philosophical and cultural landscape of our time: from the philosophy of existence to sociology and pedagogy, from the philosophy of language to psychology, up to issues related to current events. The journal publishes original articles and book reviews.

Segni e Comprensione is published twice a year. Besides ordinary issues according yo a Call, special issues devoted to a special topic may be published. All articles go through double-blind review processes.

The topicality of phenomenology

In the twentieth century, the phenomenology has passed through several seasons and has developed, as is known, in different directions. The understanding of phenomenology consists, perhaps, in grasping it as a possibility, as an exercise that takes into account the lesson of the past and, at the same time, the fate of philosophical reflection. When Husserl, in his Logical Research, first affirmed that his reflection could be brought under the general title of phenomenological investigations, the word "phenomenology" had already crossed the philosophical scene several times, even though with different meanings....However, in the 1960s and 1970s, in the climate determined by structuralism and the crisis of metaphysics, phenomenology seems to have been shelved and subjected to severe questioning under the converging blows of the structuralism paradigm, the neo-Marxist paradigm and the post-heideggerian criticism, as well as the post-modern paradigm. Nevertheless, over the last few decades, after the passions of the moment, many, and sometimes even distinct Standpunkte, have celebrated the return of and to the phenomenology of Husserl, Scheler  Merleau-Ponty, Henry, etc., in a more complete and complex theoretical and historiographic framework, which contributes to a non-idealistic reinterpretation of phenomenology. The phenomenological approach proposed in this way invites us not to depart from what is manifested, in which evidences and revelations of meaning are delineated, and in which the constructive and reconstructive paths of the theories (scientific or philosophical) are necessarily called to take root. This is perhaps the secret of the current recovery and vitality of phenomenology: it’s not a doctrine. The understanding of phenomenology consists, perhaps, in grasping it as a possibility, as an exercise that takes into account the lesson of the past and, at the same time, the destiny of philosophical reflection. For this reason, the next issue of Segni e Comprensione proposes to interested scholars to contribute with essays, notes, reviews to the designated theme.
