En busca de saberes antiguos: Simone Weil y María Zambrano

Abstract

This paper sets out to show the importance of rethinking the role of the Greeks when discussing European and Western identity. While not denying the value and the profound influence of Greece, two 20th-century women philosophers, María Zambrano and Simone Weil, argue that we need to pay attention to other cultures and traditions that have been obscured or treated with indifference for centuries, in order to rebuff both the supposed purity of Western heritage and certain binary oppositions between East and West which tend to enslave us to clichés and prejudices.
