Focus and Scope

Thalassia Salentina è la rivista della Stazione di Biologia Marina di Porto Cesareo, fondata insieme con essa nel 1966.
Le finalità di questo periodico sono state principalmente quelle di essere l'organo divulgativo delle attività della stazione e di pubblicare i risultati delle ricerche portate avanti in tutti i settori delle science del mare.
Attualmente Thalassia Salentina si inquadra nel panorama editoriale scientifico nazionale, pubblicando lavori relativi all'area geografica del Salento, ma non solo, e coprendo ambiti biologici ed ecologici sia di ambiente terrestre che acquatico, marino e d'acqua dolce.

Peer Reviewed

Peer Review Process

Submissions are first evaluated by the Editors / Board of Directors and by the members of the Editorial Boards. If the manuscript is considered suitable for publication, it is sent to at least two reviewers. The peer review process is double-blind, whereby both referees and authors are kept anonymous. If the reviews are positive, but the manuscript requires to be revised and resubmitted, the author is expected to submit the revised version
Publication decisions by the Editors / Board of Directors are final.

Publication Frequency

The journal is published in one issue per year.

Open Access Policy

Thalassia Salentina provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. Thalassia Salentina is published under a Creative Commons Attribution Licence 3.0 (CC-BY-NC-ND) which allows anyone to download, reuse, re-print, modify, distribute and/or copy the final version of the papers. The works must be properly attributed to its author(s). The downloaded material cannot be used for commercial purposes. Remixed, transformed, or built upon material, cannot be distributed without Author's and Editor's approval.

There is no APC or submission fee to publish a work in this journal.

Publication Ethics

The publication of an article in the peer-reviewed journal Thalassia Salentina is an essential building block in the development of a coherent and respected network of knowledge. It is a direct reflection of the quality of the work of the authors and the institutions that support them. Peer-reviewed articles support and embody the scientific method. It is therefore important to agree upon standards of expected ethical behavior for all parties involved in the act of publishing: the author, the journal editor, the peer reviewer, the publisher and the society.

ESE Salento University Publishing as publisher of the journal "Thalassia Salentina" takes its duties of guardianship over all stages of publishing extremely seriously and we recognize our ethical and other responsibilities. In addition, ESE Salento University Publishing subscribes iThenticate by iParadigms and promotes its use to prevent plagiarism.

Author's responsibilities
Authors are obliged to participate in peer review process. All authors have significantly contributed to the research, statement that all data in article are real and authentic. All authors are obliged to provide retractions or corrections of mistakes. When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in his/her own published work, it is the author's obligation to promptly notify the journal editor or publisher and cooperate with the editor to retract or correct the paper. If the editor or the publisher learns from a third party that a published work contains a significant error, it is the obligation of the author to promptly retract or correct the paper or provide evidence to the editor of the correctness of the original paper.

Peer review / responsibility for the reviewers
Reviewers Judgments are objective. Reviewers have no conflict of interest with respect to the research, the authors and/or the research funders. Reviewers point out relevant published work which is not yet cited. Reviewed articles must be treated confidentially. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Referees should express their views clearly with supporting arguments.

Editorial responsibilities
Editors have complete responsibility and authority to reject/accept an article. Editors should have no conflict of interest with respect to articles they reject/accept, only accept a paper when reasonably certain, when errors are found, promote publication of correction or retraction, preserve anonymity of reviewers.
