Towards a Definition of Climate Migration

Abstract

Within the present contribution, the origin and development of the debate on defining and estimating migrations driven by environmental and climatic causes will be traced. The analysis of this discourse allows an understanding of the perspective through which the figure of the climate migrant has been constructed. Simultaneously, by revisiting this debate, an examination is intended to explore how this type of human mobility urges a reconsideration of traditionally employed categories for describing and classifying migrations.
