«Propres au travail comme les hommes». Le Filles du Roi nella Nouvelle France (1663-1673)

Abstract

In a North America disputed between the major European powers, the French Empire, passed into history with the name of New France, found itself constantly under populated. When the colonial administration of the Compagnie des Cent-Associés failed, Jean Baptiste Colbert and Louis XIV decided to take in their hand the destiny of the Empire and the question regarding its population growth. The male population of the colonies towered several times that of women. It was developed a policy that aimed at encouraging migration of girls in marriageable age in New France. These young girls was Known as filles du Roi.
