Capacità umane e sviluppo. Dall’approccio dei basic needs alla spettacolarizzazione del cibo-merce=Human capabilities and development. From basic needs approach to food commodity spectacle

Abstract

Human capabilities and development. From basic needs approach to food commodity spectacle. This paper is born starting from a direct observation of the Expo event , still underway in Milan. The grandeur of the logistics and the apparent motion of the food-culture, linked to the slogan "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life", provides an immediate idea of exemplary and well thought out sustainability. The fundamental question arises, however, if this idea is filtered by theories such as basic needs approach of Amartya Sen, that puts the development before availability of goods, or the Marxist, which imputes to technological splitting man from contact with the object-commodity, inhibiting a social form reception also. The result aims to be an analysis of the other face of the event, that probably is not immediately apparent, food commodity, and its impact on worldwide society, deeply linked to the techno-capitalism and globalization again .
