Author Guidelines

Initial Manuscript Submission
Transitional Waters Monographs uses an online electronic submission system at the journal website http://siba2.unile.it/transwatersmonogr. When submitting a manuscript main text of the manuscript and figures have to be submitted in separate files. As regards the manuscript text, original source files, not PDF files, are preferred; we are able to process most processing packages but prefer Word. As regard figures, authors should save each figure as a separate file. Regardless of the application used, when an electronic artwork is finalised, it should be saved as EPS or TIFF formats. Please do not submit figures files that are optimised for screen use since the resolution is too low. Once the submission files are uploaded, the system automatically generates an electronic PDF manuscript which is then used for reviewing. All correspondence, including the Editor’s decision and request for revisions, will be by e-mail.

Alternatively, authors can submit their papers through e-mail to one of the Editors in Chief, either

Prof. Alberto Basset alberto.basset@unile.it or
Prof. Pierluigi Viaroli pierluigi.viaroli@unipr.it

In case of acceptance of a manuscript for the publications, authors must also submit a Copyright Transfer Agreement with original signature(s) and, if the manuscript contains extracts, including illustrations, from other copyright works (including materials from on-line or intranet sources), permission grants from the owners of the publishing rights to reproduce such extracts. Forms for the Copyright Transfer Agreement and the Permission Request are available on the journal website.

Submitted manuscript should not have been previously published and should not be submitted for publication elsewhere while they are under consideration by Transitional Water Monographs Submission of a manuscript also imply that, if accepted, it will be not published in the same form elsewhere, in English or in any other language, without the written consent of the Publisher.

Manuscript style
The language of the journal is English; American of British usage is accepted, but not a mixture of these. Minimum formatting requirements for submitted manuscript are the following:

  • The entire manuscript must be double spaced (text, quotations, figure legends, literature cited etc.) and have a margin of 3cm all round.
  • All pages of the text must be numbered, starting with the title page and all pages should have line numbers as well.
  • Typically a manuscript should be organised as follows: Title, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, Acknowledgement, References, Table legends, Figure legends, Appendices.

The title page must list the full title, names and affiliations of all authors. Give the full address, including email, telephone and fax, of the corresponding author. Titles must be concise and informative.

The abstract page. A concise abstract of up to 350 words is required. The abstract should state the purpose of the research, the methods used, the principal results and the main result(s) and it must be able to stand as alone, without reference to the rest of the paper. It should consist of a series of short, numbered statements.

The keywords. On the bottom of the abstract page up to eight keywords must be included. Keyword describe the paper for indexing purposes; therefore keywords selected from international indexes, such as the Aquatic Science & Fisheries Thesaurus (available at the website http://www4.fao.org/asfa/asfa.htm) should be preferentially used. Keywords should include also regional index terms.

The manuscript sections. A manuscript main text should be divided into five clearly defined sections, unless the nature of the paper justifies an alternative format: Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions. Authors can achieve more concise and effective manuscripts by shortening and focusing the Introduction and Discussion sections and by reducing the numbers of tables, figures, citations, and/or secondary parts of methods. The Acknowledgement section of the manuscript must incluse at least the name(s) of any sponsor(s) of the research contained in the paper, along with the grant number(s).

The Reference style. References should be quoted in the text as name and year within brackets and listed at the end of the paper alphabetically. Where reference is made to more than one work by the same author published in the same year, each citation must be identified in the text as follows: (Rossi, 2001a, 2001b). Where three or more authors are listed in the reference list the reference must be cited in the text as (Rossi et al., 2001).All references must be complete and accurate; DOI should be included at the end of each reference in the reference list. References are listed in the following style:

Comin FA, Menendez M, Herrera JA 2004. Spatial and temporal scales for monitoring coastal aquatic ecosystems. Aquatic Conservation: Marine Freshwater Ecosystems 14 (S1): 5-17. DOI: 10.1002/aqc. 646 Kjerfve B. 1994. Coastal lagoon processes. Elsevier Science Publishers, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Proofs
Proofs will be sent to the corresponding author for checking. This stage is to be used only to correct errors that may have been introduced in the production process. A PDF file of the published article will be send automatically to all authors as soon as the paper will be published as Preview on the journal website.
