Pregiudizi e suggestioni. La penetrazione del fascismo in Colombia (1922-1943)

Abstract

Far from the economic and strategic interests of Rome and devoid of a numerous and politically active Italian colonies, between the two world wars Colombia could not escape the appeal of fascism. The experience of the Mussolini regime penetrated the Colombian political and cultural struggle just as a complex process of modernization changed the face of this Latin American country. As an ideology and model of statehood, fascism had influence across party lines, attracting both conservatives anxious to actualize the party's doctrine, and liberals in search of pragmatic solutions to specific problems. Using to diplomatic documentation and journalistic sources, this essay analyzes the extent and limits of the penetration of fascism in Colombia and provides an approximation to Italo-Colombian bilateral relations during the Ventennio.
