Il ruolo dell’arma dei carabinieri durante il primo conflitto mondiale: il fronte interno

Abstract

This paper talks about the role of the Italian Carabinieri Corp during the WWI. Quite a lot of books and papers were written on the battle of Podgora, the Italian Carabinieri Aviators and, in general, on the military role of the Carabinieri in the Italian front, but what they did before the conflict and during it in the homefront was not so studied in deep. Thanks to their double-face role of civilian police and military corp, Carabinieri were involved in intelligence (they searched for information about Austro Hungarian troops and military facilities in the Venezia Giulia and Trentino), in military police (with arrest and search of deserters) and in the counterintelligence, struggling against adverse spies and wreckers, such as in Lugo di Romagna (see Martino Veduti’s heroic action) and Ancona.
