In difesa di Enver Hoxha. L’Italia e la questione albanese di fronte al patto balcanico (1952-1953)

Abstract

The Italian policy in defence of Albania’s independence and territorial integrity was hardly challenged by the reckless and unproductive Anglo-American attempts to overthrow Hoxha’s Regime and the persistent Greek and Yugoslavian claims – reinforced by the Balkan Pact – upon the Albanian territory. This essay, which is part of an in progress research on the history of Italo-Albanian relations from 1949 to 1961, based on unreleased documents from Italian and British archives, describes the offensive launched by Italian diplomacy in 1952-53 aimed to make both Yugoslavia and the Allies understand the absolute necessity of an independent Albania.
